Registration & Trip Dates
Winter Trip Dates
YJ offers excellent travel dates in December, January, February and March. Applicants will be able to see the initial set of specific travel dates on their secondary application. .
How To Register - The Basics
(I need more than the basics. Show me everything!)
STEP #1: Primary Application & Deposit
Once Taglit-Birthright Israel opens registration, visit YJ's page on the BirthrightIsrael.com site and click the red "Registration" button:
When you click that button, you'll start what we call the "Primary Application" which includes 8-sections. As a part of the application, you will provide information about yourself and your parents/gaurdians; answer a few questions about your Jewish background/identity; select a trip option; and pay your fully refundable $250 trip deposit. Note that your application will only be considered "complete" once you have submitted this refundable deposit. (Learn more about the Trip Deposit). We highly encourage all applicants to complete the Primary Application on the FIRST day of registration!
STEP #2: Secondary Application & Trip Dates
Within a day or so of completing the Primary Application, you will receive an email invitation from Young Judaea to complete our "Secondary Application." Our Secondary Application is where you'll be able to view and select actual trip dates and rank those dates in order of personal priority. Keep in mind that we will be adding more trip dates to the list when registration ends and Taglit-Birthright Israel assigns us all of our trips. When we have all of our dates, we'll invite you to re-enter your Secondary Application, view all of the dates and prioritize them again if necessary. In addition, the Secondary Application allows you to select travel buddies with whom you would like to share the trip. Finally, it is from the Secondary Application that you will accept or decline a trip should one be offered - more on that below.
STEP #3: Phone Interview
Before we can offer any trip spots, we will conduct a telephone-based interview with you. The purpose of the interview is to make sure that you are eligible and to answer any and all of your questions. Even though we usually begin the interviews as soon as registration opens, interviews can often take 2-3 weeks to complete depending on the number of registered applicants. The order in which your are interviewed has no impact on whether or not you are assigned a trip spot. Therefore, there's no reason to worry if you are not among the first to be interviewed.
STEP #4: Accept Your Trip
A few weeks after registration is when we begin to send out actual flight offers. Flight offers are personal invitations to join a specific trip that are sent out by email. Flight offers can expire, so if you are the recipient of one, make sure to confirm your acceptance within the time frame specified in the email. To accept (or decline) a flight offer, you will need to login to your Secondary Application note your acceptance.
Who Gets on a Trip?
Young Judaea assigns applicants to trips according to when you complete your application. We consider your application complete after you have fully finished the Primary Application, including submitting the refundable trip deposit. We recommend completing the Primary Application with Young Judaea on the first day of registration to give yourself the best chance of getting on the trip you want. All first-day applications will be treated the same no matter what time of day they are received. Additionally, priority trip selection status is granted to applicants who have applied in the past as well as applicants who are age 26 and about to age out of the program.
